U.S. Navy veteran Harland Draper holds his hand over his heart for the Pledge of Allegiance on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 in a Veterans Day commemoration at American Legion Post 3 in Ketchikan, Alaska. Draper was presented with a Quilt of Valor at the event. November 11 marks the day that hostilities of World War I were ended and the Armistice of 11 November 1918 was signed in a railway carriage near Compiegne, France. In 1940 during World War II, Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler snaffled the carriage, which is known as the “Compiegne Wagon,” from a French museum, and used it to sign the Second Armistice with the French in the same location.
