A U.S. Navy Los Angeles-class submarine undergoes testing on February 28, 2019 at the Southeast Alaska Acoustic Measurement Facility in West Behm Canal near Ketchikan, Alaska. Two U.S. Navy patrol boats, each equipped with two M240 machine guns, guarded the vessel and the surrounding restricted area. One support ship was also seen in the area. The facility runs tests to study sounds emitted from a vessel while at idle in the docking bay and within the underway site, which is the area between Betton Island and Helm Bay and extends north to Point Francis. SEAFAC runs tests on both submarine and surface ships. Results are used to further develop and advance stealth technology. (The facility is off limits during testing and only viewable from a skiff)
